Building a Bridge

Two souls separated by a gorge
Build a bridge to walk over, said one
For never did he see love personified
It’s a beauty to behold; the other one

The stones were laid on his side
Step by step he built on
With the will of steel he did build
Until he reached an arm’s distance

He saw no hand, on the other side
The other one saw none of him
Not a stone laid, nor a finger raised

Not the refusal, but the indifference
Burnt down the bridge that he built
A bridge cannot stand on a single side

A bridge incomplete is a bridge not build
